We continue to look for homes to pasture a couple of hardy, beautiful horses that need permanent sanctuary. Sometimes the damage emotionally is just too great and re-homing these gals is not in their best interest. Our two mares deserve to go and live, and just be horses. If I had the acreage they would stay with me. They are wise old mares.
Unlike many rescues and some plain horse-folk, we do not decide if a horse lives or dies because of its "usefulness". If they can no longer be ridden, or they are done pulling that plow, or have had their last foal...death is not their reward for their years of service.
We believe their usefulness remains. As healers, listeners, companions and beloved friends, the horse holds a quiet magic, an unbelievable understanding about life. The Horse-Human connection is a significant event in the lives of those fortunate enough to have experienced it.
Everything we do here resonates on that principle. We serve the needs of the horse, never the other way around, and the horses then choose to take care of us. Stop looking at your horse as livestock, and respect them as sentient beings. That's where the magic begins.
