Momma Ari decided a little discipline was in order.....Did you have to break skin? Incur another vet visit? Geesh...weaning is immenient. She will be fine, Thank Goodness!
Today my barn manager called and said Katy came by to drop off a donation, multiple bags of rice bran, senior feed and more. You have to know Katy to appreciate the greatness of her heart. She rescues horses, donates her time ENDLESSLY, feeds feral kittens in the neighborhood, works with project purr trapping and rehoming the wild little beasties after they've been fixed. She works tirelessly making the planet not just our county a better place for animals, especially equines.
The back story is that Katy adopted my very first orphan foal that PMR pulled off a kill lot. It's how we became friends thru this little soon to be ahem..hefty...mare. This little love would grow to be a most enormous draft mare. She was Katy's heart horse and sadly only graced us with her company for a few short years.
Of lately Katy donates alot of her time, love , energy and expertise to Blue Horse Rescue. They are a phenominal horse rescue located out of Crockett, California. The founder Laurie Dearinger, is easily one of the most gracious women I have ever met, and Katy demonstrates just how powerful this duo can be...they work they do is magic. Mini's have been their focus of lately and their latest rescue is nothing short of a little handsome cutie pie. Below is are pic's of Bowdie. If you love mini's ( and who doesn't?) check out www.facebook.com/bluehorserescue.org/
Thank You Katy for the donation, for your continued efforts helping horses and for being such an amazing woman. So many love you! :)
We love the ad in West Coast Horsemen! Looking forward to our Brunch with the Babies! Get your tickets before they are gone!
A body, horse or human can only take so much abuse. Stress will take it's toll. Imagine starving and feeling sick while trying to protect your baby from harm. The loud banging of pipe poles clanging and chains on metal opening and closing gates making you jittery and worried. Loud voices yelling and the smell of terror and death in the air keeping you on edge. You are rail thin, exhausted and...pregnant . This little mare needed a soft place to land perhaps more than any other equine we have saved.
She came across PMR's radar and got lucky. I say that because there simply is no rhyme or reason why one pregnant mare dies and another is spared. The raw facts are that 150,000 American horses go to foreign slaughter plants each and every year. It is an unnecessary and henious ending for our beloved equines. I knew she was pregnant (bred back) when she came off the Texas Kill Lot skinny, sick and facing death. In Texas quarantine Justice was so sick she remained there nearly 3 months.
Now at Pregnant Mare Rescue she has begun to slowly adjust to kindness and care. With nickers at feeding time, she stands at the fence hoping her next meal will surely come. And it does. She is still nursing her filly Saffy who we believe is approaching 4-5 mos old. Saffy stood next to her mom on the kill lot, so her birthdate remains unknown.
Yesterday morning Justice had a miscarriage. Her little fetus was a fully formed foal about 18 inches long, still tucked in the amniotic sac. While it is a sad occurance, one must ask how much can one mare take?
Feeling perhaps safe and cared for she began to relax and let down her hyper-vigiliant state of being. And as we know the stress subsides and our back goes out, or the cold sets in. Well, I believe Justice's body said enough. I cannot do all this. We are making sure she gets all the nutrition, care and comfort she needs. A sponsor would help!

These babies need a start in life. The cost to adopt is ridiculously low! What an opportunity to love and own a piece of America's National Treasure, The Wild Mustang.
OUR Senator will decide the fate of wild horses.
Call her today.
"My name is [your name] and I am calling to urge Senator [NAME] to make sure that 2018 spending legislation for the Department of the Interior INCLUDES prohibitions on the destruction of healthy wild horses and their sale for slaughter. Please ask the Senator to stand with the 80 percent of Americans who oppose mass killing and slaughter of wild horses and burros and want them protected on our public lands."
Call today. Then call again tomorrow. And remind them again on Monday. We cannot let the BLM kill as many as 92,000 of these cherished and innocent animals.
The bill your Senator votes on next week could shape final budget legislation that will be adopted in December. So, even though the final votes are delayed until December, this debate could be the deciding factor in whether America's wild horses roam free or are sent to slaughter.
Remember, the future of America's wild horses and burros is at stake - so please make those calls now!
Thank you for fighting for what's right,
The American Wild Horse Campaign is dedicated to preserving American wild horses and burros in viable free-roaming herds for generations to come, as part of our national heritage.

We pause from our busy lives once again to pray...
It is with a very heavy heart that I share a dear friend of mine lost a very dear soul in the lighting storm last Monday. We have all had our crosses to bear of lately. I am sending out love and healing. We will resume our hustle and bustle tomorrow, but for now a prayer for everyone dealing with loss, grief, sadness and pain.
"With extreme sadness I have to share this tragedy. My precious boy "Little" was killed in Mondays lightening storms. Multiple strikes hit their pasture, he was gone instantly. Thank you to my human angels Mary Brint I can never thank you enough for all you have done over the past 2 days. I could not have gotten through this without your support. Jessica Schattenburg you appeared out of nowhere and gave me some profound words in a very dark moment "nanosecond" and "look at the sky", I will forever be thankful for the comforting words. This precious boy touched so many lives and I have thousands of photos of incredible memories and adventures with my "Little man" from the last 20 years! I am not ready for phone calls, my heart is broken."
